A Sunday day out to Duffryn Garden’s

Duffryn Garden’s

Today was a completely unplanned day out and it was just amazing.

If you didn’t know anything about the events happening across the country go have a look at some local to you https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/features/open-doors-in-wales. We had a quick look this morning and discovered our most local place was having an open doors event this weekend, one thing for it, summon the army so we could get out early.

Duffryn house from a side view looks equally as impressive.
The impressive Duffryn Garden’s house.

We opted to tire the children out by going to run riot around the garden’s before heading into the house (less things will get broken this way). Had the event not been free it would have cost us £27 which I don’t think is too bad.

We had a good few hours of walking, lots of making sure daddy could rest his back, but I think we covered most of the 55 acre’s of garden’s.

Summery of the garden's and why replacing the shrubbery works.

Daddy teaching Daisy (aged 10) how a sun dial works.

There’s quirky things like sundials and statue’s all over grounds, daddy and Daisy were intrigued.

View of the back of the house with a reflection of it in a pond that sits central in the symmetrical gardens

Daddy having a rest at the edge of a very large, round pond. The children sat with him watching Dragonflies.

Daisy took over being family photographer today and I have to say she is brilliant.

Myself and my husband having a pose with Daisy turning to photographer duties.
A rare one of us.

The various gardens were impressive. I think everyone would appreciate the hard-working staff who maintain this site.

Flowers in bloom everywhere, so much colour and the bee’s were incredibly busy, it’s given us inspiration for next year.

Arches of grapevines full of bunches of grapes

Grapes growing on the vines.

There’s photo opportunities all around and daisy must have taken about 200 photos. We won’t add them all.

A view of the grand house but further back with symmetrical lines of hedges and flower beds as far as the eye can see.

A red and yellow flower, we aren't sure which type but it was with giant dahlia's.

Kobe and Theo holding hands walking in a dried up stream.

Daisy and Theo sat on the grass, Theo stroking the blades.

The perfect place for Theo to walk and when he got tired there were lots of areas for him to safely crawl.

  • If you are a member of the national trust this site has free entry (we’re looking at setting up a family membership).
  • Dogs are allowed as long as they are kept on a lead, there’s also poo bins to dispose your bagged up poop.
  • Toilets located at various points.
