Today was a completely unplanned day out and it was just amazing.
If you didn’t know anything about the events happening across the country go have a look at some local to you https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/features/open-doors-in-wales. We had a quick look this morning and discovered our most local place was having an open doors event this weekend, one thing for it, summon the army so we could get out early.
We opted to tire the children out by going to run riot around the garden’s before heading into the house (less things will get broken this way). Had the event not been free it would have cost us £27 which I don’t think is too bad.
We had a good few hours of walking, lots of making sure daddy could rest his back, but I think we covered most of the 55 acre’s of garden’s.
There’s quirky things like sundials and statue’s all over grounds, daddy and Daisy were intrigued.
Daisy took over being family photographer today and I have to say she is brilliant.
The various gardens were impressive. I think everyone would appreciate the hard-working staff who maintain this site.
Flowers in bloom everywhere, so much colour and the bee’s were incredibly busy, it’s given us inspiration for next year.
There’s photo opportunities all around and daisy must have taken about 200 photos. We won’t add them all.
The perfect place for Theo to walk and when he got tired there were lots of areas for him to safely crawl.
Things to know.
- Parking on-site available Inc disabled parking close to the entrance.
- Coffee shop selling cakes, soft drink, soups and sandwiches.
- If you are a member of the national trust this site has free entry (we’re looking at setting up a family membership).
- Dogs are allowed as long as they are kept on a lead, there’s also poo bins to dispose your bagged up poop.
- Toilets located at various points.
- Gift shop.
- Produce grown in the walled gardens are for sale at the entrance/exit.
- Seasonal plants for sale.
Family.
- Children’s play area located at the entrance and next to the tea rooms.
- Baby changing facilities at various locations.
We would definitely recommend Duffryn Garden’s and having missed most of the house we can’t wait to go back.
You’ve got a fantastic little photographer in the making.
I love National trust properties, our membership is the best £10 I spend a month x

Thank you Claire, she is doing so well. I really can’t decide between National Trust or Cadw but not sure we’ll have time to make both work x

That’s good to hear about the membership, were debating about whether to take one out or do Cadw. Seems like a no brained to do one or the other but we wouldn’t get the most out of both x
